"Outstanding" performance at the Regional Festival
White Rose Concert Band received the Gold
Award in the Community Wind Band Class at the Yorkshire Region stage of
the National Concert Band Festival, for the third year running on 27th
January 2008, under the musical direction of conductor Ben Tierney.
The band performed 'Shelter Island' by Nigel Hess and Philip Sparke's
'Portrait of A City'. Adjudicator Ray Thompson described the performance
as "outstanding" and "superb", while fellow adjudicator Kit Turnbull
noted the band's "good sense of style and character" and recognised the
challenging nature of the repertoire the band had chosen to play.
The band, which is now preparing for the National Festival which takes
place in Warwick in April, would like to thank Ben for all his efforts
and guidance, and Steve Heninghem for his support. The committee would
also like to thank all the players who took part in the performance.
